Data, sources
& what we know.

A talent planner is only as useful as the information behind it. Here is where this snapshot comes from, how we handle gaps and what a saved build can tell you.

BLIZZCON PREVIEW470 talents · 9 classes · 27 treesSnapshot recorded 14 September 2026

The source snapshot

Our starting dataset is the publicly delivered talent data from Talents Forever. That site transcribed World of Warcraft: Forever talent descriptions from BlizzCon preview footage and publishes its raw data under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0.

We extracted the talent data object from the public talents.js source file, normalized talent identifiers and prerequisites, and separated explicit descriptions from source estimates. The source JavaScript was not executed as part of that import. The calculator’s application code and site copy are independently implemented.

This snapshot has not been independently checked against every frame of the original footage or a playable client. A “source” description means that the source dataset explicitly provides that rank; it does not mean Blizzard has verified this website.

Missing ranks stay visible

Some talents have a description only at one recorded rank. We display the matching rank when it exists. If it is missing, the detail panel says that rank is unverified and separately shows an available rank for reference. We do not multiply percentages, durations or other values to invent missing ranks.

Any estimate already present in the source is labeled “Source estimate.” Notes about partially visible tooltip text are retained. You can allocate points to an unverified rank, but its unknown effect remains unknown.

Classic comparisons

The dataset labels talents as new, changed, moved or unchanged relative to Classic. Compare to Classic displays that classification and the older reference description. Removed talents are listed under their original tree; removal from a tree alone does not prove that an ability has disappeared from the game.

Source HTML tags and internal tooltip comments are removed for readability. Some older descriptions also include S03 override variants. Those entries carry a warning and retain their readable source wording; their original Classic wording is unverified.

Builds and data versions

Every shared build includes the dataset version, class, level and point allocation. This calculator accepts a link only when its version and tree rules match. Incompatible links are kept intact with an explanation. We do not silently move old points into a revised tree.

What the planner checks

The planner checks rank limits, the available points at the chosen level, five-point row gates and explicit prerequisite talents. It blocks refunds that would invalidate downstream points. Those checks describe allocation legality in this snapshot, not damage, healing output or encounter performance.
