Discipline
11 / 51Holy
0 / 51Shadow
0 / 51Who this is for
- Dungeon groups that already use Power Word: Shield. Rank 3 of Improved Power Word: Shield is +20% absorb, not 21%.
- Healers who want 17% mana regeneration while casting at 20 more than Inner Focus’s next-spell mana dump.
Who should skip it
- Shadow leveling. Shadow talents are empty on this page.
- Anyone expecting Penance or Power Infusion at 20. Both sit behind more Discipline points than eleven.
Milestones
- Level 10: First point
Twin Disciplines 1/5. Instant-cast damage and healing +1%.
- Level 14: Five Discipline points spent
Twin Disciplines 5/5. Row 2 is legal; Improved Power Word: Shield is the spend at 15, not at 14.
- Level 15: Shield talent starts
Improved Power Word: Shield 1/3. Rank 3 (+20% absorb) completes at 17.
- Level 17: Shield rank 3
Improved Power Word: Shield 3/3 is +20% absorb, not 21%.
- Level 20: Plan complete
Meditation 1/3 allows 17% of mana regeneration while casting. Flash Heal rank 1 is also trained at 20.
How to play it
- Power Word: Shield is trained at 6 (rank 1, 45 Mana), 12 (rank 2, 80 Mana) and 18 (rank 3, 130 Mana; spellbook beta). Put it on the tank before damage. Improved Power Word: Shield’s 20% absorb (talent rank 3 at 17) only applies to that shield. Twin Disciplines 5% is instant-cast healing and damage; it does not increase Heal’s casted rank.
- Direct heals: Lesser Heal rank 3 at 10 (75 Mana) until Heal rank 1 at 16 (155 Mana). Flash Heal rank 1 is 20 (125 Mana) and is not available before 20. Renew rank 2 at 14 (65 Mana), rank 3 at 20 (105 Mana). Shield first, Renew when the tank is stable, Heal/Lesser Heal when the shield breaks and health is dropping. Penance rank 1 is 30; Greater Heal rank 1 is 40. Neither is in this range.
- Fade rank 1 at 8 (40 Mana), rank 2 at 20, if you take aggro. Psychic Scream rank 1 at 14 (100 Mana) if a pack reaches you. Inner Fire rank 1 at 12 / rank 2 at 20 for armor. Silent Resolve 20% Holy-threat reduction at 18–19 is the talent half of staying off the boss.
- If the group wants a 100% mana-cost next spell more than 17% regen while casting, the maintained alternative spends the 11th point on Inner Focus instead of Meditation.
Why this order
Eleven points stay in Discipline. Holy and Shadow remain empty on this page.
Twin Disciplines can take the first five points on row 1. Improved Power Word: Shield and Silent Resolve are row 2. Meditation is row 3 after ten earlier Discipline points.
Power Word: Shield is the absorb this tree actually improves. Penance and Power Infusion are later Discipline talents and are not reachable at eleven points.
What the spent talents do
Twin Disciplines
Twin Disciplines increases damage and healing of instant-cast spells by 1% per rank, 5% at rank 5. Its recorded benefit applies to instant casts; it does not increase every healing spell.
Improved Power Word: Shield
Improved Power Word: Shield increases damage absorbed by 7% / 14% / 20% at ranks 1–3. Rank 3 is 20%, not 21%.
Silent Resolve
Silent Resolve rank 2 reduces threat from Holy spells by 20% and shortens Stun, Fear and Silence on you by 10%. That is the dungeon-threat half of the row-2 spend.
Meditation
Meditation rank 1 allows 17% of mana regeneration to continue while casting. Inner Focus is the other row-3 button; this plan spends the 11th point on regen instead of a 100% mana-cost cooldown.
Weaknesses and tradeoffs
- Power in Light is skipped. Smite and Penance do not get the Holy Fire damage bonus from this plan, and Penance is not trained yet.
- Inner Focus is skipped. There is no 100% mana-cost reduction cooldown in this order.
- Soul Warding, Penance, Renewed Hope and Power Infusion sit behind more Discipline points than level 20 allows.
Gear notes
- Intellect increases the mana pool Lesser Heal / Heal / Flash Heal / Shield spend; stamina is extra health if you get hit. No recorded item is tagged Priest-only. On 13–18 dungeon loot, prefer printed Intellect on cloth or off-hands when the compared field is the same required level (or the same item level if required level is missing on both). A +stamina piece is the recorded tradeoff when pulls hit the healer.
Optional point
Inner Focus at 20
You would rather a 100% mana-cost next spell than Meditation’s 17% regen while casting.
Inner Focus is a 1-rank row-3 talent after the same ten Discipline points. When activated it reduces the mana cost of your next spell by 100% and increases its critical effect chance by 25% if that spell can crit.
